My Digital Studio Color Picker

I attended a fabulous training on My Digital Studio, Stampin' Up!'s digital crafting program, on Saturday.  Thanks, Lyssa!  Here is one of the pages that I made during the training.

One of the things that I learned is that you are not just limited to Stampin' Up!'s colors of card stock!  You can match EXACTLY the color of something in your photo.

The background of this page is a custom color from the Color Picker.  From the Background Papers tab in the Design Center, select color. The box shown below will pop up, then click on the Picker tab.  Hover your mouse over the photo until the black plus sign is over the color you like.  Click okay and your background will turn into a color that coordinates perfectly with your photo.

Digital Valentine Card

I made this Valentine card in My Digital Studio.  To create the 3-D hearts on the bottom, I used the same stamp that says 'happy valentine's day'.  I copied it twice and changed the color of one to be Whisper White.  Because you can layer in My Digital Studio, I layered the stamps on top of each other to create the 3-D effect.  To cover up the rest of the stamp, I added a card stock layer of Chocolate Chip and placed it over the words.  There is also a zig-zag stitch over the Real Red grosgrain ribbon.

My Digital Studio Seminar

A regional My Digital Studio Seminar for both area demonstrators and customers will be held at Maranatha College in Watertown, WI, on February 27th, 2010, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

There will be multiple samples of completed projects to view and handle as well as "hybrid" projects, combining traditional scrapbooking and stamping methods with the computer.

Topics we will cover include all the basic maneuvering in the program as well as:

* how to receive automatic upgrades and updates
* how to carry a project through all the way to printing
* things to watch for while designing your project
* unique ways to use the projects you create
* creating JPEGs for use in your blog, advertising and personal use
* how to order multiples of the same page or project
* creating projects for hybrid uses
* guidelines for selling projects made with MDS
* how to purchase and install downloads correctly
* how to check a project for errors and spelling
* question and answer period at the end
* one free Make N Take hybrid project

The fee for the seminar is just $15 per person paid in advance by February 20th, or $20 after that. The fee is non-refundable if you cancel after the 20th. Buffet lunch through the excellent catering service of the college is included in the price. Free coffee and a
breakfast snack will be available in the morning. Parking is free and the building is handicap accessible, with the restrooms right next door to our classroom.

If possible, please bring your laptop with the MDS software fully installed. You do not have to have a laptop to attend, however.

My Digital Studio Photo Layouts

My 3 year old loves to grab my camera and take pictures.   Sometimes, among all the blurry photos of unidentifiable objects, there are some true gems.  People have a broader smile, a sillier face or just a more genuine expression when a child is holding the camera.

I did this quick scrapbook page in My Digital Studio with pictures that Emily took at a party yesterday.  I plan to do more pages of the party, so when I started this project I chose to do a photo album, 8" x 8" Square, using the Happy Bday Designer Template.  The last page was a blank blue page that I added a photo layout to.

To add a photo layout to your MDS scrapbook page, you'll want to go to the Resource Palette on the left side of the screen.  Click on the photo layouts icon and it will bring up a number of different photo layout options.  Just double-click on the one you like and it will add it to your page!

This is also a great resource for traditional scrapbooking.  You can scroll through the photo layouts to get ideas for photo placement and then make your page with paper and photos using the layout of your choice.

Digital Scrapbook Page

Here is another scrapbook page that I made in My Digital Studio.

 
One of my favorite things about doing projects digitally is that you can change the size of your stamped images.  On this page I took the circle stamps from the Enjoy Every Moment stamp set and resized them to be larger and smaller to create a variety of different sized circles.

I used the same photo template as our Christmas card and made a thank you card with My Digital Studio.

If you make a 5x7 greeting card, you can upload it to your local photo printer and print it as a photo (for only a few cents a piece depending on where you go!).  It will cut off just a little bit on each side of your card, so plan accordingly and just leave some extra space on each side as I did above.

My Digital Studio Scrapbook Page

I've been making scrapbook pages in My Digital Studio!  For this one I started with a photo only template page, added some background paper, some photos, a stamp and a little journaling. 

If you've got some Christmas money burning a hole in your pocket, you are definately going to want to buy yourself the My Digital Studio software.  There is so much you can do with it, and I'm working on a little surprise for those of you that purchase your My Digital Studio software through me.

I wanted to make a special card just for my blog readers, so I started playing around with My Digital Studio.

 

Here's what I learned... drop shadows make all the difference.  My card above was looking pretty flat and digital, so I went back and added drop shadows to most of the elements.

Can you see the difference?  The elements just pop out at you more in this second card.
