Nothing WOWs like a shaker card!

My friend Joyce recently shared these fun shaker cards with me that she made using the Peace to You stamp set

Aren’t they great!

They inspired me to order the Peace to You stamp set and create some shaker cards of my own.

 Basic White: 3-3/4″ x 5″
Starry Sky card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″

Joyce used her paper cutter to cut her shaker windows out, but I’m lazy so I immediately knew dies would be quicker and easier.

In this video, I’ll show you how to make shaker cards WITH OR WITHOUT DIES!

And of course, give you lots of tips along the way.

Watch the video above to see how to cut a rectangle frame in your card stock with a paper cutter, use dies to cut your window and make a shaker card from start to finish.

Tips for making Shaker Cards:

  • If you are going to use a die to cut your window, stamp the image you want inside of your shaker window and hold the dies over it to see what will work.
  • There are different ways to assemble a shaker card so watch the video above if you want to see what I find to be the easiest way for me.
  • Tape a window sheet behind the window you cut out, then add foam strips ALL around the window – you don’t want any holes for the shaker bits to fall through!!!! You may want to add extra foam strips to the base or around your entire piece of white card stock to keep your top piece popped up evenly.
  • Get rid of static!!! Use your embossing buddy and if that doesn’t help enough, I grabbed some of my husband’s spray starch, sprayed it on a paper towel, and gently wiped it over my window.
  • Sprinkle shaker sequins, glitter, card stock bits, confetti, etc over the scene or whatever you stamped and taped to your card front.
  • Remove the backing from the foam strips and CAREFULLY center the window over your card. Shake it up!

Okay, so here are a few more cards that I made with these same supplies and the windows I cut out for the shaker cards.

This last card isn’t a shaker card, but once I got going with this color and stamp I couldn’t stop!

Shaker cards will probably require extra postage when mailing because they are thicker and you’ll want them hand-canceled to protect them. But let’s be honest, these types of cards are for the people you REALLY love and they are worth the extra postage 😊

Give a shaker card a try and let me know how it goes.

Happy Stamping!
