My favorite color is blue and my favorite thing is anything that has to do with the beach or being on the water. So as you can see, the Sailing Home stamp set was meant for me!
It’s also a great set for making masculine cards.
In honor of Father’s Day weekend, I thought I’d share 3 cards I made with this stamp set that are perfect for the men in your life…
Night of Navy card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
Night of Navy: 4″ x 5-1/4″
Crumb Cake: 2-3/4″ x 4″
Soft Suede: 2-7/8″ x 4-1/8″
This first card with the phrase “Set Sail in the Direction of Your Dreams” could be used for graduation, someone starting a new job or just general encouragement.
The Subtle Embossing Folder is no longer available, but if you already have one, it pairs perfectly with this stamp set! The subtle lines mimic the look of water and add just a hint of texture to the background.
Besides using an embossing folder, another great way to make backgrounds is to stamp the same image repeatedly. For the card above I used Crumb Cake ink to stamp the compass on Crumb Cake card stock but… BIG TIP: I stamped it OFF on scratch paper first so that the ink was very light. Adds interest without overwhelming the card.
The twine adds more color & texture but it’s also a bit thick. That’s why I popped up that entire main piece with Stampin’ Dimensionals to make room for it on the back. To thread it through the die-cut I used the paper piercer on the Take Your Pick Tool to poke holes in each end. I didn’t actually tape down the die-cut at all, I just let the twine hold it in place.
Finally, I stamped the sailboat in Night of Navy ink on white card stock but it was too stark for the card so I sponged some Crumb Cake ink over the boat to age it a bit.
White Note Card: finished size 3-1/2″ x 5″
Rope Paper: 3″ x 4-1/4″
Note Cards are a great size for a quick thank you card and this one was made with bits and pieces of things I had left from other projects that they didn’t quite work on.
Once again I sponged a little Crumb Cake over the compass image to age it a bit so that the “Thanks” banner would stand out from it.
If you have the Stitched Nested Label Dies, try cutting off one end to make different size banners!
Crumb Cake card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
Night of Navy: 3″ x 4-1/4″
Soft Suede: 3-1/8″ x 4-3/8″
White: 1/2″ x 3-1/4″
Finally, for all the dads out there. It doesn’t have to be Father’s Day to tell them that they are the Best Dad Ever!
For the background on this card, I stamped the compass in Soft Suede ink multiple times before re-inking so that there are compasses in varying shades to add depth. Note that you don’t have to stamp on the full background! Even half of the background lends a nice flow to the card.
I also sponged the card edges where there were compasses with Soft Suede ink, as well as the sailboat and “Best Dad Ever” banner so that they weren’t so bright white.
Watch this video for tips on how to cut even banner ends.
The final touch was a bit of rope die-cut in Soft Suede card stock under the banner.
Well, that was a LOT of little tips and tricks that you can use in your card making, so if you just skimmed over this post I encourage you to read back through it! If you have any questions, please ask.
