What do you do on the inside of handmade cards? That’s a question I get asked frequently and for me, the answer is easy.
If my card base color is dark and writing would be hard to read on it, I add a white insert.
Here’s How to Cut Paper for Inside Cards…
In this quick episode of Ink It Up with Jessica TV I’ll show you how to use a paper cutter to cut paper for the inside of your cards, especially when you’re using dark paper as your card base, as well as give you a few ideas on how you can decorate the insides.
Note that the finished size of my cards is almost always 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. That size fits perfectly in a Medium size envelope from Stampin’ Up! and you can make 2 cards from one 8-1/2″ x 11″ sheet of card stock.
I hope that helps you with the inside of your cards!
Happy Stamping!
Jessica

Thank you for the tips!
Enjoy watching for the rips. I am just new to this card making and lots to learn yet. But really enjoy it. Thanks.
So glad to have those cuts measurements and how to.
What were the measurements?
Hi Cindy, I cut my inside pieces to 4″ x 5-1/4″. If you watch the video in this post I show you how to get four out of a piece of 8-1/2″x 11″ paper.
I really like your idea for the inside of the card. I always see women showing and give ideas for the front of the card but…never see the inside of the card. And you did show the measurements.
Thanks Toni. I don’t often show the inside of my cards because they mostly all look just like this. Hope it helps you in your card making!
Wow, I’ve struggled with this and your directions were so clear and now I’m making card fronts left and right. Thank you!
What a great idea. I usually cut as needed. But, now I can use a whole sheet and have ready for when I need it. It will be a time saver.
Thanks! It is great to have an inside piece all cut and ready when you need it!
how do you secure it to the card stock–glue or tape?
I use a little double-sided tape just in the four corners.
WOW! Am I surprised!?! That would certainly be easier, faster and less expensive that the liquid glue I usually use
What are the measurements for the dark color base cards?
Hi Pamela, My card bases are 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
Hello , I love ideas. You must be very creative. I need to see more. How do I get it?
You can find lots of ideas on my card making blog here: https://www.inkitupwithjessica.com/card-making-blog/
Thank you for making the inside of the card possible. It has been either too big or too small. This is great.
You’re welcome, so glad I could help!
Hi Jessica
I have been using copy paper for my inserts. But now you’ve given me some great ideas.
Thank you so much for sharing.
You’re so welcome! Copy paper works great, it’s just not as nice to stamp on and not as smooth to write on. 🙂
