I love making cards with pre-printed patterned papers, but it’s also really easy to stamp your own!

Monochromatic means using only one color and that’s what we’re going to do for the backgrounds of these cards.

In this video, I’m going to give you tips for stamping your own one color stamped backgrounds for cards…

For this first one, I stamped the Easter eggs in Coastal Cabana ink on Coastal Cabana card stock…

Coastal Cabana card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
Patterned Paper: 3″ x 4″
Melon Mambo: 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″
Basic White: 1/2″ x 3-1/4″

Supplies:

For this one, I stamped the carrot in Pumpkin Pie ink on Pumpkin Pie card stock…

Pumpkin Pie card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
Patterned Paper: 3″ x 4″
Melon Mambo: 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″
Basic White: 1/2″ x 2-1/4″

TIPS for stamping backgrounds:

  • Put down scratch paper because you’re going to want to…
  • Stamp off the edges. You don’t want to keep your stamped images all on the card stock because that’s going to look weird.
  • Rotate your stamp so you don’t just have a line of the same image.
  • Depending on where you’ll put other elements on your backgrounds, you may want to stamp around the edges or go from one corner to the other diagonally to get a nicely spaced pattern.
  • Ink & Stamp Consistently. For these cards, I inked up my stamp every time I stamped it. You may want to stamp multiple times before reinking. Whichever you choose to do, do it consistently for a nice background for your card.

What do you think? Are you ready to give this technique a try?

Happy Stamping!
