This past weekend I learned something that I am SO excited about. Kristen Bryant showed me how to make my own embossing dies for the Big Shot!

I love the Big Shot and while I do enjoy using dies that cut out shapes, I use it most for embossing and adding texture to my card stock. Now I can make my own embossing patterns, and you can too!

To make this die, Kristen used the “free” cardboard sheets that come in a package of Designer Series Paper and the Flower Daisies #2 die.

How to make your own embossing die for the Big Shot:

  • Cut 2 cardboard sheets to 5-3/4″ x 7″. Layer and adhere together with a glue stick.
  • Layer and adhere remaining cardboard sheets with glue stick. Use your favorite Big Shot die to cut shapes out of the layered cardboard.
  • Use glue stick to adhere shapes to 5-3/4″ x 7″ base.

To use your homemade die, build your Big Shot Sandwich: Multipurpose Platform (experiment with which tab you need based on the thickness of your die and the paper you are embossing) – Embossing die – card stock – Silicone Rubber – Impressions Pad.

Here’s a card that Kristen made with her homemade embossing die…

How cool is that!?!?! Now go give it a try. If you don’t have the Big Shot yet, what are you waiting for? This is the BEST tool for making beautiful cards that your friends won’t believe you made.
