I’m Thankful For You

My friend Rachel asked me the other day if I ever use my background in Mathematics to figure out how to get the most out of my paper. The answer is absolutely “YES!” I’m always trying to figure out how to use all of my paper without any waste.

Jewel Thankful for You Card

One of my favorite ways to use up an entire piece of 12×12 pretty paper is to cut it up into 3″x4″ pieces. It’s super easy to cut it into three 4″ strips and then cut each of those strips into 3″ pieces. No leftovers!

You can make TWELVE cards out of one sheet of pretty 12×12 paper! And there are so many different ways to position these pieces on a card front so all of your cards don’t have to look the same.

Thankful for You CardBerry Burst & Emerald Envy card bases: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
Whisper White: 4″ x 5-1/4″ (two – one for card front, one for card insert)
Pretty Paper: 3″ x 4″

These two cards use different papers but I’ve used the 3″ x 4″ pieces in the same way.

Tip: Stamp before you tape, just in case you don’t get a good image and want to try again. Lay your pretty paper on top of your white piece to get the general idea of where you want your greeting to go.

Tape your pretty 3″x4″ paper to the bottom of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Whisper White card stock. Wrap ribbon around to cover the top seam of the pretty paper, tie in a nice knot and trim ends. Tape to the front of your card base.

Inside of Thankful for You CardWhen making a card base out of dark card stock it’s always a good idea to include a white insert. That makes it easier to write in and for your recipient to read your message.

Stamp your insert with words or a fun design. Tape inside your card. Voila! You’ve got a lovely card to send to someone.

Remember you can make 12 of these cards from ONE sheet of pretty 12×12 paper. Here’s a video showing you how to cut up your paper plus a different layout for using your 3″x4″ pieces: Quick Cards from 12×12 Paper Video

I hope you’ll give it a try! (Especially if you have stacks and stacks of pretty papers that you’re afraid to cut into. This will help you make that first cut and use every single bit of it to make pretty cards. Go for it!!!)

Happy Stamping!

Jessica
