Making your own handmade Christmas cards doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, it can be quite simple and fun!
These 3 Christmas cards were all made from one piece of 6×6 tree patterned paper and even the most stepped up version was quick and easy to make.
Evening Evergreen card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
Tree patterned paper: 2″ x 5-1/2″
Circle Size: 2-5/8″
To keep your handmade Christmas cards as simple as possible, limit the layers of card stock and tools that you use.
Evening Evergreen card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
Tree patterned paper: 2″ x 5-1/2″
Striped patterned paper: 1/2″ x 5-1/2″
Circle Size: 2-3/8″
The striped piece of paper was the bottom strip that I cut off my 6×6 piece of patterned paper before I cut it into 3″ strips. Stampin’ Up!’s designer series papers are double-sided and both sides can usually be used together like this.
Soft Succulent card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
Tree patterned paper: 2″ x 5-1/2″
Evening Evergreen: 2-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
Circle Size: 2-5/8″
Tips for Stepping Up Your Card:
- Emboss your card front with an embossing folder. I used the Tasteful Textile folder for this card. It adds just the right amount of texture to give the card stock interest without warping it.
- Add an extra layer of card stock. To highlight my tree paper I added an extra layer of Evening Evergreen card stock behind it. My rule of thumb is to cut it 1/4″ larger.
- Mix die-cut or punch shapes. For this card, I layered a white circle on an Evening Evergreen shape cut from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies.
- Embellish! Simple cards can still have rhinestones, ribbon, or any other embellishments you love.
Simple Christmas cards don’t have to be boring!
You could make 3 of these cards with one 6×6 piece of patterned paper or 12 of these cards with one 12×12 piece of patterned paper.
