Why settle for a plain card when you can create a birthday surprise that unfolds in a fun way?

This fun fold design is easy to make and perfect for adding a little WOW to someone’s summer birthday.

The bright colors and fun sea creatures in the Ocean Friends paper are perfect for summer cards!

For this type of fun fold, I love to pair a patterned paper with an embossing folder.

The little front flap opens to the right, and then it opens up like a regular card.

It’s FUN and best of all, it’s easy to make!

Here are the paper sizes you’ll need:

  • Summer Splash card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
  • Summer Splash: 4″ x 5-1/4″ (embossed with the Soft Waves folder)
  • Berry Burst: 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ scored at 3-1/4″ to create a square with a flap
  • Patterned Paper: 3″ x 3″
  • Basic White insert: 4″ x 5-1/4″

Fun Fold Instructions:

  1. Fold the card base and add embossed card stock to the front. You could also use another piece of patterned paper instead of embossed card stock.
  2. Fold the 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ piece of card stock on the score line, add the patterned paper, and put adhesive on the small flap (on the same side of the card stock as your patterned paper).
  3. Pick up your card base, position the square of card stock where you want it on the front, then fold the tab with adhesive around the card front and close your card to secure it to the inside of the card.
  4. Open the card back up and tape the white piece inside. I recommend stamping on it first before you tape it down.
  5. Add your greeting on the front and embellish as desired!

Here’s another example with a floral paper…

For this one, I used the Beautiful Butterflies folder, and I love how when you open up the little top flap, it reveals a big embossed butterfly!

Did I remember to take a picture of that? No, I did not. But after my daughter’s wedding in July, I plan to make a quick video for you on how to make this fun fold card.

I hope this inspires you to grab some of your supplies and make a fun fold card!

Happy Stamping!
