I make more thank you cards than any other kind of card. I guess that’s good, right? Last week I was playing around with the Something Lacy stamp and my favorite color Calypso Coral and came up with this simple thank you card…

Lately I’ve been shaping my greetings with punches or framelits dies (because it’s quick & easy to stamp first and then center the punch or die around the stamped image), but I just couldn’t find one that worked with a thank you stamp and looked good on this fabulous floral background. So I went back to the basics and cut a rectangle… proving all you really need to make a card is stamps, one color of ink and a good paper cutter. Oh and some good adhesive. Nothing kills a card like adhesive that doesn’t stick.

When I made this card I shared a quick picture of it on my Facebook page and soon after Pam Irwin shared this fabulous set of cards that she made…

I love when you can take a simple card like this change the colors, change the greeting and have a great set of cards to give as a gift! (Or you can keep them all to use yourself, I won’t tell.)

Now for a few quick tips…

  • Lay your big background stamp flat on the table and instead pick up your ink pad, hold it in your hand and move it around to ink up the big stamp. (Soooo much easier than holding onto your big stamp and trying to ink it up the other way.) I then put my paper on top of the inked stamp, add a layer of grid paper or some kind of scratch paper and then rub my hand all over the top. You can also use a brayer to roll over it, but I’m usually too lazy to pull mine out. Bonus: If you’re using a clear mount stamp you don’t even need to use a block!
  • Stamp then cut. Personally I just find it easier to stamp my image and then cut an even border around it. I use the lines on my paper cutter to make it work. But if you find it easier to cut your paper and then stamp on it, go for it. It’s all about finding what works for YOU!
  • The perfect layers on this card are 1/4″. What does that mean? Each piece of paper is a 1/4″ wider/longer than the one on top of it. Except the Calypso Coral behind the white greeting piece. That’s 1/8″ wider. See the difference?

Paper Sizes:
Whisper White: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ card base, 3-3/4″ x 5″, about 1-1/8″ x 2-7/8″ for the greeting
Calypso Coral: 4″ x 5-1/4″, about 1-1/4″ x 3″ for the greeting mat
