This is the card that broke my Big Shot. Well, not really, but it is the card that I was trying to make when I discovered my Big Shot handle would not turn anymore! MAJOR TRAUMA!! I called Stampin’ Up! right away and found out that my Big Shot is 7 years old – 4 years past the warranty- and let’s be honest, it’s been very well used. Very well. In fact, I’m kinda shocked it lasted as long as it did. Stampin’ Up! offered me a brand new Big Shot for 50% off which I snatched right up and will hopefully have before the end of the week. In the meantime, my very handy husband was able to fix my old Big Shot. It’s a bit squeaky, but it works!

In case you were wondering, this is what a Big Shot looks like when taken apart…

Now, back to the card I was making… When I saw the new Garden in Bloom stamp set I knew I had to have it. It reminds me of one of my favorite old flower stamp sets, but it’s even better because it’s photopolymer! That means the stamps are totally clear so that you can see through them to see where to stamp your images over top of each other. This is what’s called a 2-step stamp set which means that there are two stamps that you stamp on top of each other to create the image. For this card I used black for an outline and stamped the bold stamps in bright colors to fill in.

Do you stamp the bold or the outline stamp first? It’s up to you! For this card I did it both ways. I found it easier to stamp the Calypso Coral flower first and then stamp the black outline around it. For the leaves, it was easier to stamp the black outline first and then fill in with the Wild Wasabi leaves.

When my Big Shot stopped working, I was really glad to have my Texture Boutique Machine as back up! That allowed me to emboss the background for this card.

One other thing I tried on this card was using the new Whisper White Thick Cardstock for the base of the card. It’s heavier and a little bit different texture than the regular Whisper White card stock that I used for stamping the flower on. I like it! It makes for a sturdier card and I’ll save it just for using for the card bases.

The great thing about this thank you card is that you can easily swap out the greeting on this card to make it a birthday card, thinking of you card or any kind of card you need. I love a versatile design like that!
